Making things online since 2012…

Colleen Casey Vlogs & Other Online Creations

My Internet life began in a Wordpress blog in 2012 called Broke for Beauty.

Blogging was an excellent way to stay in the practice of writing regularly. And in the 2010s, everyone was doing it.

I spent all of my free time designing my logos, headers, and website structure. I was always looking for ways to change things up each season, add new categories for different types of posts, and dive into the analytics to see what was getting the most attention.

Thankfully, my graphic design skills have improved immensely since then. But this blog was the first thing online that was 100% mine. In 2014, I decided to spin up a YouTube channel, too, and one of my first videos went mini-viral.

As I matured, so did my online presence.

I started to feel stuck in the beauty niche—my multi-passionate nature was begging to be unleashed. I stopped blogging and pivoted the YouTube channel a couple times. Now, it’s Colleen Casey Vlogs.

From time to time, I still do beauty-esque videos, but I enjoy a much wider variety nowadays.

I had a lot of failures, too.

It’s part of being human!

In 2017, I started a second blog called Empower Writing, which aimed to share writing tips and advice to entrepreneurs and small business owners who needed a lot of content but didn’t have budget for a professional writer. I even ventured down the path of “online course creation,” but I hadn’t spent proper time building up an audience. Eventually, the blog and courses took more time than they were worth, so I (sadly) walked away from it.

Also in the graveyard are an ebook, a podcast, many book outlines and chapter drafts, and a second YouTube channel.
